Listserver: A UW listserver (designated PATHOGEN) is being developed for the announcement of information about the MPHRG and the research area, and to provide a forum for e-mail discussions among subscribers, posting of questions, reagent requests, news about meetings and publications, etc. Information on subscribing to this list will be posted when available. Invited Microbiology Seminar Series Speakers: A unified guest seminar list drawing on several relevant affiliated series is available. These outside speakers include those invited for the Bacteriology Colloquium series, for the MMI 900 Journal Club in Microbial Pathogenesis and Host Responses, and by Microbiology Doctoral Training Program students.

MMI 900 Journal Club in Microbial Pathogenesis and Host Responses. This topic-oriented course meets Fridays 12 noon - 1 PM in 408 SMI each Fall and Spring, with topics varying by semester. The focus in Fall, 2000 is Sexually Transmitted Disease Pathogens. The focus in Spring, 2001 is Eukaryotic (Fungal and Protozoan) Pathogenesis. The format is presentation and critical review of current literature articles by enrolled students, with participation, discussion, and feedback by the audience. Faculty, postdocs, and other lab members are encouraged to attend. Each semester, some sessions are devoted to seminars by outside experts in the field. Invited speakers in Spring, 2001 are Tamara Doering (Cryptococcus neoformans, Washington University, 2/2), Peggy Hostetter (Candida albicans, Yale University, 4/4), Barbara Burleigh (Trypanosoma cruzi, Harvard University, 4/20), and Dan Goldberg (Plasmodium falciparum, Washington University, 5/4). MMI 901 / Bact 731 Student Seminar. This course meets Wednesdays 12 noon - 1 PM in 1111 Biotechnology Center (auditorium). Students in the Microbiology Doctoral Training Program (MDTP) make annual research presentations. Course directors: Joe Dillard, Katrina Forest, John Mansfield, Jon Woods.
